In 'Transhumance,' an ongoing multidisciplinary project, artist Sébastien Bonin attempts to grasp the persistence of gestures from a rural world he comes from—Savoy—gestures that are 'perhaps not yet entirely gone.' The strength of this approach lies precisely in that nuance. From the encounter Bonin orchestrates between a radically contemporary form and a nearly forgotten gesture, between bronze and an orange peel, a subtle enigma emerges… do gestures have a soul? For if not, what is the point of memory? Here, in the Sicilian countryside, without even realizing it, this is all anyone speaks about…'The rural world occupies a central place in this exploration. It is the setting of a fragile balance between transmission and transformation, between rootedness and change. It is a space where ancestral know-how enters into dialogue with contemporary realities, where everyday objects become markers of a collective history. My works evoke objects and images haunted by their own function and heritage, sketching out a territory where the tangible and the intangible intersect, where the memory of gestures merges with reinvented forms.'
